This week’s spotlight is on local artist @aarong This week’s spotlight is on local artist @aarongrayum. Aaron has lived in Middle Tennessee his entire life, moving to Fairview with his family in 2018. He met his wife Michelle, also an artist, at @mtsu where he graduated with a BFA in 1999 and has worked as a graphic designer ever since — winning multiple Addy awards and appearing in Print Magazine. In 2005 Aaron began consistently showing his paintings in galleries and art fairs, in a style inspired by his own childhood art. “I make art as a way to connect to people who feel unseen, in a way that shows them that they matter and are not alone. Using acrylic on canvas, I create images inspired by drawings I made when I was a kid – like birds, umbrellas, and jelly bean trees – speaking a language familiar to both children and adults. Words and poetry are integral to much of my work, allowing me to explore the tension between the playful innocence of childhood and the vulnerable truths of a grown-up world that doesn’t always understand.” Read the full interview and learn more about Aaron at fairviewartscouncil.org.
Let me introduce to you local artist Amanda Monroe Let me introduce to you local artist Amanda Monroe. @acmonroedesigns, who has painted for as long as she can remember, is a Tennessee native who creates bold, colorful abstract paintings inspired by stained glass. A former accountant, she discovered a paint-pouring technique which rekindled her love for art. Along with the encouragement of her husband of 16 years, Amanda began experimenting with all types of painting techniques, left her career as an accountant, and now is able to pursue her interests full-time. Amanda and her husband are currently trying to adopt a sibling group out of the foster system, and all proceeds from the sale of her art will be assisting with their wonderful effort. For this week’s local artist spotlight, and to k For this week’s local artist spotlight, and to kick off October right, meet Eric Freeman, the host and producer of The Unseen Paranormal Podcast. @theunseenparanormalpodcast is a weekly podcast hosted by Eric, a Fairview native, featuring a different author, historian, researcher, or investigator discussing all things paranormal. Most of the guests are local, sharing stories and the histories – and hauntings – of various Tennessee locations. "As a teen, my friends and I would do our own "investigations" with a tape recorder and a camcorder trying to capture any evidence to prove that what we were experiencing was real. I decided to start my own podcast after reconnecting with a high school friend and helped her produce her podcast. I enjoy talking to my guests and seeing different perspectives on the paranormal phenomena." Eric Freeman has interviewed paranormal investigators, psychic mediums, authors, regular people with paranormal experiences, and even a Bigfoot researcher. This week's local artist spotlight is on Fairview This week's local artist spotlight is on Fairview graphic designer & painter Michelle Murakami (@michelle_murakami_kitvroom) Michelle Murakami grew up in Fairview, then moved to Nashville in 1997 to be closer work, schools, and daycares. Then she returned to Fairview after her children grew up and flew the coop. "I come from a family of creatives. Having live music in our house from my dad and his friends, and murals painted by my mom on 3 of the walls in our house, it was natural that my siblings and I would gravitate to that. I have been a graphic designer for more than 33 years working for corporate in-house teams, an ad agency and now on an educational team at Vanderbilt. I have had many different responsibilities in the graphic designer role such as illustrator, composer, photographer, photo editor, quality control, among others. I have only recently begun to get back into fine art more consistently; something I haven’t done since school." “I enjoy painting nature, especially when interesting textures give the natural objects an otherworldly feeling. I paint using acrylic, oil and watercolor. I’m still trying to find my style — I generally lean toward realism, but sometimes that feels rather confining, so I’m exploring techniques that force me to loosen up. We’ll see how that goes and where my style evolves.
