J. Ronald M. York
In 1990, York, a retail merchant and interior designer, opened his first art gallery. One year later, he picked up a paint brush and has yet to put it down. After 15 years of owning the award-winning Local Color art gallery, he sold it to pursue his own art. However, many of the artists he had represented over the years had a different
plan for him.
In January 2011, York opened another gallery. York & Friends Fine Art currently represents 28 local and regional artists in Nashville and through Palladio Interiors, in Memphis.
As a self-taught artist, Ron has found success with his colorful, whimsical acrylic works on canvas and board. His art can be found in the collections of Pinnacle Bank, The Nashville City Club, Belmont University, First Baptist Church (Nashville), Avenue Bank, Volunteer Bank and Tom Collins Music to name a few, plus private collections here and abroad.
York is also a composer and has seven instrumental CDs along with one vocal CD. In 2017 York released his first book, Kept in the Dark – a memoir of family secrets, forgiveness and healing. In 2018 he released Songs from an Imperfect Life – a memoir of family secrets, hidden sins and growing up gay in 1960s Nashville. That book has gone on two win two Beverly Hills Book Awards as well as a finalist in the 13th Annual National Indie Excellence Awards. In March 2019, York released his first novel, Nathaniel & the Midnight Movers which Foreword Reviews describes as “humorous suspense” and gave a 5 out of 5 Clarion rating.
He currently resides in Nashville with his cat, Miss Trixie Delight.
